Land Use

CICC is open to members and their guests, who are encouraged to use the land for walking, running, picnicking, bird watching, photography, sketching, and similar low impact activities.

To protect the land CICC prohibits the following:

No fires

No smoking

No quarrying

No logging

No rock climbing

No camping

CICC land includes several potential natural and man made hazards, such as the cliff at Whitehead, the rocks on the shore, large sections of poison ivy, deer ticks carrying Lyme Disease, and several abandoned structures from the former Fort Levett. Please use appropriate care while you are on the conservation land. In the event of any injury that may need medical attention, the recommended action is to call 911, a call that will in turn alert nearby first responders.

Members and their guests are requested to carry out what they bring in and to pick up any stray litter they see on conservation land.

Members are allowed to have simple events on CICC land at no charge with prior permission of an officer or director. Simple events are generally expected to be for less than fifty people and NOT to involve any third party, on-site services, such as catering, tents, or bands. If you wish to have a simple event, please contact a CICC official with the date, location, estimated length and a brief description of the event you wish to hold.

Abutters to conservation land may clear brush to the extent needed to comply with Firewise Community standards for “Defensible Space”, limited to CICC land up to 100 feet from the abutter’s dwelling. Abutters taking such action are expected to discuss plans with a CICC officer.

All members and guests are encouraged to contribute to preserving the land by volunteering time for projects and/or money - both of which help to maintain trails, control invasive species, improve views, and enable special projects, such as restoring native plants.
