Required Hours
BSW and MSW Foundation year students are required to complete 16 hours per week in their practicum placement
MSW Concentration year students are required to complete 16-24 hours per week in their practicum placement. Our new Concentration Year Hours Policy allows students and agencies to come to an agreement on how many hours per week (16-24) will be completed.
The total hours required for each cohort and a breakdown of hours week-by-week can be found in the Practicum Education Calendars
It is our policy that students will not finish placement early and will continue through the fall and spring semesters according to the Practicum Education Calendar.
Flex Days
BSW/MSW Foundation year students may miss up to 2 days (16 hours) per semester of practicum due to illness, family emergency, personal appointment, etc.
MSW Concentration year students may miss up to 2-3 days (16-24 hours) per semester of practicum due to illness, family emergency, personal appointment, etc. Flex hours are dependent on how many hours per week the student and agency have agreed upon.
Students must notify their practicum instructor if they will be absent from practicum. Communication is vital!
Practicum start dates
BSW students begin practicum hours the first week of fall semester (August 25)
MSW students begin practicum hours September 8
Students are not in placement during semester breaks
Fall break - November 24-28
Spring break - March 16-20
BSW students are not in placement during winter break - December 22, 2025 - January 16, 2026
MSW students are not in placement December 22, 2025-January 2, 2026
Students are not required to be at their placement during finals weeks
All students must complete hours by May 8, 2026
