Student
The primary responsibility is to the student's own learning and professional development through the learning opportunities provided in the practicum setting and in accordance with the NASW Code of Ethics
The student will work collaboratively with their practicum instructor to develop the learning contract and submit it to their faculty liaison by the due date listed in the Practicum Education Calendar
Students must adhere to assigned agency's personnel practices, policies, and procedures, which includes adhering to the agency's workday hours and dress code
Absences from regularly scheduled practicum workdays must be approved by the student's practicum instructor
The student will complete a self-evaluation at the end of fall and spring semesters
Practicum Instructor (PI)
The PI is the BSW/MSW/LCSW that provides 1 hour of weekly supervision to the student
The PI will provide an educationally focused practicum experience in accordance with policies and procedures of the School of Social Work, including the use of the learning contract, educationally-based recordings, appropriate supervision, and assignment of appropriate learning experiences
The PI will arrange an agency orientation for the student, including safety procedures
The PI will assist the student in developing the learning contract
The PI will complete a student evaluation at the end of fall and spring semesters
The PI will meet with the faculty liaison once each semester (and more if needed) to assess student progress and coordinate learning experiences
The PI will provide regular supervision for the student and be available for spontaneous consultation and/or supervision as needed
Task Supervisor
The task supervisor is the on-site supervisor who is involved with the student's day-to-day tasks and provides supervision in addition to that provided by the practicum instructor
Every student that has an off-site Practicum Instructor is required to have an on-site task supervisor
The task supervisor will meet with the PI during the placement to assess student progress, coordinate learning experiences, and collaborate on the end of semester evaluations
The task supervisor must have an advanced degree or level of experience in the agency that allows for supervision of a student
Faculty Liaison
The faculty liaison is the link between the School of Social Work, the placement agency, and the student
The faculty liaison will provide consultation and support to the student and the agency
The faculty liaison will facilitate the seminar course
The faculty liaison will conduct an agency site visit at least one time each semester
The faculty liaison will participate in the development of the learning contract
Students and practicum instructors can reach out to the faculty liaison when they have questions or concerns with the placement or when they need ideas about appropriate learning experiences, have ethical concerns, etc.
