Blitz Tournament 0013 - 0019

Summary

This blitz tournament challenged 16 players to be the blitz champ. It has been finished since July 25, 2012. An archived topic was posted on Planets Nu.

After six grueling months of battling, along with a great deal of bug squashing, the tournament has finally been concluded. The ultimate champion of this tournament is none other than JKovalainen, the Taurus War candidate of the Birds!

He won an incredible 60-turn game 4 (bringing the final results to a 3-1) against Jobo. On turn 40, there was only a single surviving Warp 8 Medium freighter at which time the situation was that available minerals were very scarce.

Additionally, there had been quite a number of close results throughout the tournament.

Tournament Regulations

    • This tournament is available only to premium members.

    • The prizes for this tournament are as follows:

      • Champion / 1st place: 1 month of premium membership, plus a gold medal

      • 2nd place: Silver medal. Awarded by surviving to the finals and losing to the champion

      • 3rd and 4th place: Bronze medal. Awarded by surviving to the semi-finals and losing to a finalist.

      • Optional 3rd place prize: Bronze medal upgraded to some shades of silver.

    • This tournament is a single-elimination tournament. Lose a series, and that is it for you.

      • However, the losers of the Semi-Finals (Round 3) can request a third place playoff, if they wish to fight for the optional prize upgrade.

    • Players are permitted to choose the race they want for each game throughout the tournament, including in the middle of a round.

      • Recent changes in the code, however, means that the second player will always know what race the first player picked before choosing his own race. This change was presumably done to work around quite a few of other bugs.

      • Players that are unsure what race to pick at any time are welcome to use the randomization program. (→Reference)

    • Each pairing will play a best of 3 games, with the winner advancing to the next round. The only exception towards this rule is the final round, which requires a best of 5 games instead in order to declare a winner.

    • Players may agree upon who hosts each series (or a fraction thereof). Players must disclose the IDs of each game or they may be disqualified for lack of contact. If necessary, both players will be disqualified and the player in another pairing that would be fighting the winner of the offending pairing will be granted a bye into the round after.

    • New! Starting with Round 3, any deviations from the typical everyday schedule must be approved by Challenge Space Yard.

    • In the event there is a problem setting up the game(s), Challenge Space Yard must be contacted by the players involved in the offending pairing(s). If he receives incomplete contact in any pairing, he will disqualify the players that did not contact him.

    • Players are advised that there are still massive meteors in games. If a player's homeworld struck with the massive meteor loses the game, then that game's outcome may be nullified by the loser's request. (→Reference)
