About Us

Marion "Weasel" Boatwright, Troy "Hot Springs" Harrison, Frank "Lefty" McConnell, Craig "Chief " Bannerman

After the first Crooked Pine era in the ’70s, Craig and Frank joined with Laura Boosinger and Don Jackson to form the 107-String Band. They played the region for several years and appeared on several local TV and radio programs, winning Outstanding Performance at the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in Asheville.

Craig played for years after 107 with Mac Snodderly and Kirk Randleman in the Painless Band, winning numerous contests along the way, being retired from competition, and becoming the house band for Fiddlers Grove in the 1980s. Craig retired as the Deputy Fire Chief for the small town of Black Mountain, NC, is married to Jane and has sons Brooke and Levi and daughters Marnie and Megan who are clog dancers with Craig’s extended family.

Marion formed the Weasel Creek Stringband in the ’90s. They performed across the South specializing in playing for – and organizing -- square and contra dances. Marion has built, owned, and run two wilderness lodges, one in Transylvania County USA and one in New Zealand. He now runs Stony Point Studios in Brevard NC and Marion's son and daughter are raising families clamoring for visits with 'Grandpa Weasel'.

Frank has lived in Brevard ever since those early Crooked Pine days, moonlighting solo at schools, camps, and weddings. He and his wife Zia have two sons that are showing great musical promise in their own right. Frank is recently retired Director of Operations at Brevard Music Center, now spending more time songwriting and walking the trails of Pisgah and Dupont forests.

Troy says that when he was a student at Madison High School in Marshall, he attended a class in string music to get out of having to take typing. "That's the whole reason I'm in music." Harrison is a native of Madison County. Today Harrison is a wonderful banjo, mandolin, and guitar player, carrying on the traditions of his family and community.
