This is a real specialty of Crooked Pine. With fun as the watchword and interactivity as the tool, Frank, Craig and Marion thrive in sharing, with young and old, the traditions that make Southern Appalachian music iconic. Utilizing a raft of instruments - and drafting helpers ranging from puppets to clogging dolls - Crooked Pine sweeps groups along for rollicking rides through the origins and evolution of this noble music.Craig grew up in a family that traveled the world (often with the Highwoods String Band) teaching old time music and dance. Marion’s first university degree was in Appalachian Music. Frank was on staff at the Brevard Music Center for 38 years. In the early days of the band they sought out and received apprenticeship from mountain music legends Byard Ray and Tommy Hunter.

Sharing this exciting music has indeed been central to all of their lives and passing the culture on to the next generations is a lifelong goal .
