We are excited to announce some promising news for our ministry!

Progress on new location for Men's Shelter at

City Road Center for Hope

903 N. Chestnut Street, Henderson, NC

We are thrilled to report that we have raised the needed funds to do the construction at City Road (see the dream below), and we hope to occupy the new facility in late spring of 2024.   However, there will always be ongoing costs for supplies, utilities, and payroll that must be met in order to sustain this important ministry.   We depend on the support of our community.

The Dream

Community Partners of Hope, Inc. has the opportunity to relocate our Henderson/Vance Emergency Men’s Shelter from the basement of First Presbyterian Church (where we have operated seasonally for 16 years) to a larger and more suitable location--the recently vacated City Road United Methodist Church building at 903 N. Garnett Street (the congregation of City Road UMC has merged with First United Methodist and the want to use the old building for good in the community.)

To make this move, we needed funding for building upgrades and for utility costs since First Presbyterian has absorbed all utility costs in the past.

In addition to moving to a new location, we are dedicated to the goal of keeping the shelter open year-round which will essentially double our payroll expenses. While the most urgent need for shelter is in the coldest months of the year, homelessness does not go away with milder weather. Homeless men still suffer many hardships during the warmer months.

Our programs have previously focused on "rescue" measures, but we realize that it is better to prevent homelessness than to treat homelessness. Our vision is to become a hub for a variety of services done more efficiently and effectively.   With added space, we will be able to use more volunteers to interact with and give support to our guests.

Construction is well underway adding walls, showers, a sprinkler system, and more and we hope to move in  by May (depending on materials, schedules, and inspections)

Operating year round in a more suitable location will put us on the path to future goals of:
