Generation Gap 2012

Post date: May 31, 2012 11:24:03 PM

Several of our members participated in the annual General Clinton Canoe Regatta Generation Gap race. This race is designed for two persons 14 or more years apart so it makes for some interesting and usually pretty even match ups. Francis teamed up with Bruce Coddington in the aluminum class in search of a first place trophy which was exactly the outcome. Ezra and Matt moved out of the F and up to the G class because Ezra turned 12 this year. They had a pretty good race except for getting sandwiched between two other boats at one point which ended up giving them a third place finish. In the J(Pro) class, Mike and Ben teamed up with their usual partners for the last few years, Alec Davis(Ben) and Roger Henry(Mike). Mary teamed up with Devin Arenz, who not many people had heard of previously, and Joe teamed up with Ron Shepard. The odds were pointing to a close race but Ben was hoping to take down Jeff Shultis and Josh Schlafer and break their two year winning streak. It didn't end up that way though, to everyone's suprise Mary and Davin led the race all the way to the finish and won by 15 seconds with a time of 21:10. Ben/Alec were 2nd(some say it was a tie) by one second over Jeff Shultis and Josh Schlafer with a time of 21:25. Mike and Roger were 4th, their time was 21:38. Rounding off the top 5 were Adrienne Gillespie and her Dad (22:47). Joe and Ron were 10th and their time was 22:44.
