Community Alert
Welcome to Corofin County Galway.
Community Alert is a community safety programme organised by a committee of volunteers, working in conjunction with the local Garda, to make the community a safer place for children, for older people and for vulnerable people. Community Alert is about creating and maintaining a caring community with the aim to allay fear and reduce feelings of isolation.
Corofin Community Alert has been registered with Muintir na Tire, the national association for the promotion of community development in Ireland
Don’t forget to keep an eye on your elderly neighbours over the winter months. All senior citizens are encouraged to keep a Bottle in the Fridge. This is where a written list of medications being taken is put in a bottle and kept in the fridge. In the event of an emergency, the paramedics would retrieve the list to assist in initial treatment.
Street Signs
We have erected 9 community alert signs at strategic locations throughout the parish and are in discussions with Galway County Council in regards to the erection of 3 more.
Thanks to the Rural Social Scheme in Corofin for erecting these signs.
If you would like to nominate an area that you think a sign should be placed, please contact any committee member
Smoke Alarms
Galway County Council are distributing free smoke alarms to vulnerable households.
On average 47 people die in Ireland each year in domestic fires. Many of these deaths can be prevented by having a working smoke alarm. The alarms are lithium battery and have a life span of 10 years.
If you know of vulnerable households in your community that need a smoke alarm Contact 087 4383323 or Email: galwayppnsecretariat@gmail.com.
Name, address and phone number of person to receive the alarm is needed. Contact details of person to install the alarm is also needed. Alarms are 10 year lithium battery alarms and are subject to availability
