Connecticut seems to have lots and lots of "fire departments" and lots and lots of fire engines - in comparison to other states - and every "fire department" has their own Chief - there are 169 towns + 21 cities + 9 incorporated boroughs in Connecticut (per Wikipedia 4/23/2019) - there are no unincorporated areas - [ there are 315 fire departments (which includes maybe a dozen industrial FDs and 2 tribal FDs) - https://portal.ct.gov/CFPC/Frequently-Asked-Questions ] - [5/13/2024 - there are no county FDs and no regional FDs - there might be regional dive teams and hazmat teams and technical rescue teams and tanker task forces and wildland teams - state forestry only has approx a dozen forest fire trucks - there are no fire helos -]
Same goes for police and ambulances - mostly every city and town has their own police agency - except that many small towns have a Resident State Trooper - which is a big kettle of fish - these small towns have a mixture of state and local employees working as police - ambulance service is done by a mixture of private and public ambulances - some serve 1 town or city - some serve multi towns or cities - some areas have just 1 paramedic who covers multi towns in a SUV - there are 3 medevac helos that are available 24/7 - national guard might have a couple of helicopters that can be used as medevacs or water droppers - dispatch services are done by small 1 town centers and by countywide dispatch center - it s a wide range - most counties have a major fire/ems dispatch center that covers multi towns - except for Hartford County and Fairfield County and maybe New haven County - pretty sure that most wireless 911 calls go to local PSAPs but some might go to State Police PSAPs - as in most of the USA - EMA does very little and has very little equipment - maybe a few storm spotters and a few auxiliary fire trucks - some FDs might have decon trailers - etc
