Where Gibson used prices to denote their models, Epiphone used code names like Zephyr, meaning electric and Regent, meaning cutaway.
Before CMI (parent business of Gibson) purchased Epiphone in 1957, this guitar was the top of line for Epiphone, one stop above delux model. It retained the eighteen and half inch body width of its nonelectric predecessor. The post-CMI model became an odd-looking-character, with a new thinline profile and eighteen and half body width.

Martin "D" line is comprised of dreadnought-style instruments.
The signature of the dreadnought body style is the thicker waist (the waist is the inward curve at the middle part of the body).
It also typified by a 15 & 5/8-inch body width in the case of Martin, or up to 16 inches for Gibson. Originally introduced in 1931 as model D-1 (of which two was built), and quickly renamed the D-18, this dreadnought model always featured a mahogany back and sides, and a spruce top. The fourteenth-fret neck joint was introduced around 1934.

Mainly during the 1950s and 1960s, some producers such as Harmony and Kay made all kind of guitars in large numbers for outside clients. These customers were primary retail-store chains or mail-order organizations, which had no guitar making facilities but wanted to cash in on the huge demand by having their own brand names put on the guitar products. However, both Harmony and Kay made and marketed some guitars with their own logos.
This 1962 Kay Jazz II k775 model is similar to one used by Eric Clapton in the early 1960s, when he played in a group called The Roosters. The budget conscious Kay brand started in 1931, and the Chicago-based company also made many cheap guitars for stores and mail-order firms. Their US production ended in the 1960s.

A moderately priced, bolt-on neck model, this brought the Parker Fly within reach of a much larger guitar-playing audience. Parker made some changes from playing feedback, like wider and taller frets, and a thicker neck shape. He also took out the slight beveling contour on the font of the body that the original fly had.
With its Mahogany bolt-on neck, the NiteFly Mojo delivers warm full tones with a gutsy edge that comes from its solid mahogany body and Seymour Duncan Jazz and JB pickups. It also features a Fishman piezo system and stereo preamp, carbon-glass composite fretboard, Sperzel locking tuners, Graph Tech self-lubricating nut, and 3-way magnet pickup selector with push/pull coil tap.
Features: Mahogany body, Solid Mahogany bolt on neck with carbon glass-epoxy reinforcement, 25.5" hardened stainless Steel Frets, Sperzel locking turners, Graph Tech self-lubricating nut, Seymour Duncan Jazz (neck) and JB (bridge) pickups, 3-spring - 3mode tremolo System, Polyurethane finish, 6lbs over weight.

In 1976 Fender tried again to market a thinline. But the Starcaster was also unsuccessful, mainly due to Gibson dominance, and was dropped in 1979.
These beauties from Martin's pre-war years are highly sought after by both players and collectors alike. Introduce in 1931 as the D-2 model, the rosewood back and sides make this the perfect complement to the mahogany D-18. It's large, volume-producing body quickly became the top pick of bluegrass players, and set the standard that has been followed ever since.
