In 1971 I purchase Commodore Semi Acoustic Guitar with tremolo still in place made in yellow & red colour, built in Matsumoku Industrial that was Japanese manufacturing company, that once existed in Matsumoto City, Japan, between 1951 to 1987. A rough copy of a 1969 Gibson ES 335 Red & Yellow Sunburst which is guitar Larry Carlton bought new in 1969 that earned him the name "Mr. 335" monika, and replica of Cherry Red - Epiphone EA-250. Epiphone was top quality manufacturer of guitars and string instruments since 1873 but in 1957 was acquired by Gibson who continued to release quality Epiphone instruments from their factory until 1970 when they contracted Aria guitar and basses manufacturer in Japan who released Aria / Epiphone 5120T Semi Acoustic Guitar 1970 - 1971, while also subcontract to Matsumoku industria that continue cheaper built version with Epiphone brand name "Epiphone EA-250". These instruments were loosely based on previous Epiphone and Gibson design and were already in production under other Brands/Badges such as Aria, Casino, Raven" amongst others . The Epiphone line was merely re-branded Matsumoku guitars already in existence. Aria Commodore 153X Jaguar Solid Electric Guitar was released at end of the sixties that leads to Epiphone EA-250 Semi Acoustic Guitar was built in Matsumoku factory that is to be same then Commodore N25 Semi Acoustic Guitar except for the Red Yellow Sunburst of N25 which, with more period than you can shake a stick at. Commodore N25 like Epiphone EA-250 is hollow body and bolt on neck.
N25 is a lovely to look at appearance and 'interesting' guitar that also looks like Electra 228 that was made in 1960 and Gibson 330 which you can find on photos page. Commodore Semi Acoustic Guitar not necessarily best guitar to play in the world, but it has distinctive character, particularly the tone that comes from it. It's twangy and sounds very vintage.
My guitar looks like same model Commodore Epiphone Semi Acoustic Guitar that has report at bottom of page, but my one is not product on show and does not have faults mention and, mine has better bridge and different trapeze tailpiece. Commodore Semi Acoustic N25 is better than Epiphone EA-250 Semi Acoustic Guitar.
Not forgetting which is design like Commodore N25 Guitar Is the Jazz Guitarist, Barney Kessel - Gibson Standard 335, and also lots of videos on YouTube of this Gibson guitar. Nice Dweezi Zappa review on YouTube.
