DH Hummingbird G-EBHX

In 2016,  I was asked by the Shuttleworth  Collection if I would restore their DH 53 Hummingbird after the fatal accident at Old Warden.

The front end , forward of the back of the cockpit , was completely destroyed and had to be rebuilt from new, using the damaged remains as a pattern. The rear end being re- skinned.

The wings were rebuilt with new front main spars and wing ribs. Everything in front of the rear spar was destroyed.

This picture shows the new stainless steel firewall and aluminium covers, the aircraft had been stripped down ready to be taken back to Old Warden for covering, painting and final assembly ready to be flying again in the near future.

The aircraft is to be fitted with a Bristol Cherub lll, kindly donated by Roy Nerou, this shows a mock up of the new engine mounts, made in copper tube. Designed and built by myself based on original ABC Scorpion firewall fitting and the Heath Parasol engine fitting. Awaiting approval.
