Cyndi got her PhD in 1993 under Dr. Michael Sullivan at Mississippi State University working on the trophic importance of diatoms and other epiphytes growing on the leaves of shoal grass, Halodule wrightii, along the Mississippi Sound barrier islands using stable isotope tracers.
She worked on seagrasses, saltmarshes, and Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) during her 10 years at GCRL.
Cyndi was the major advisor for both MS and PhD graduate students in the newly formed Department of Coastal Sciences and graduated a number of students including:
Blackburn, Brett R. M.S., Biological Sciences. 2000 “The Effects of Industrial and Cultural Development on Phytoplankton Community Dynamics Within Three Bayou Systems of Jackson County, Mississippi.”
Opel, Nichole M. M.S., Coastal Sciences 2002. “Assessment of Genetic Variation among and within Populations of Shoalgrass (Halodule wrightii) in the Northern Gulf of Mexico.”
McCall, Robin K. Ph.D., Marine Science. 2005. "The importance of seagrass epiphytes in Big Lagoon, Florida, with emphasis on the diatoms (Bacillariophyceae)."
She also published many reports and scientific papers which can be found here: Moncreiff papers.
