American Government (9th)

United States History (11th)

A little about myself.  I grew up on a farm in rural Dawson, MN.  I graduated from Dawson-Boyd High School.  I started my collegiate career at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA but ended up transferring to Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN where I graduated with a BA in History.  In 2003 I took my first teaching job at Arthur Ashe Middle School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  I spent three years at AAMS where I taught 7th grade Geography and 8th grade American History.  I also coached boys and girls basketball, boys volleyball, and track.  In 2006 I moved to Sioux Falls, SD where I attended graduate school at the University of Sioux Falls.  After completing my masters program (Education) I took a job teaching and coaching at South Broward High School in Hollywood, FL.  At SBHS I taught 10th grade World History and 11th grade American History.  I was also the head boys basketball coach and an assistant football coach.  In 2010 I started teaching and coaching at Deuel High School in Clear Lake, SD.  At DHS I was the entire Social Studies Department (meaning I taught 9th World History, 10th Geography, 11th American History, 12th Government, and 12th Economics).  In addition I was the head football coach, an assistant girls basketball coach, middle school track coach, and student government advisor.  I left Deuel at the conclusion of the 2018 school year to teach here at Chattahoochee High School.  This will be my 16th year in the classroom.  In addition to teaching US History and American Government at Chattahoochee; I am also coaching football (Assistant Head Coach/Co-Defensive Coordinator/DL), coaching basketball (JV Boys), a Saturday School Supervisor, and Stadium Manager for lacrosse, soccer, and track in the Spring.

Extra Help
I will make every effort to meet the needs of my students.  This includes being available for extra help and study sessions.  I am generally at Chattahoochee by 7:15 each morning and am available up until the start of first period.  This obviously includes the office hours (7:40-8:30) each morning.  I am also available during my 4th period lunch and my 5th period planning.  Just be sure to check with me because often we will have department meetings, professional learning communities, and other obligations that would limit my availability.  You can also email me if you have questions and I will try to respond as soon as possible.

I will NOT be updating this website in terms of the dates that you may see for units beginning, ending, assessment dates, assignments, etc.  This is an unprecedented situation that we are all experiencing together.  For this school year TEAMS and Schoology will serve as our primary "websites" and students will be using those to get information, find assignments, turn in assignments, conduct class meetings, and take assessments.  More specifically we will use TEAMS for the synchronous, face to face meetings and we will use Schoology for assignments, discussion boards, quizzes, and tests.  Feel free to use this website to find additional information, help study, etc.  It will be a resource.  TEAMS should serve as your primary point of contact.
As always if you have questions contact me.
