Writing106 Reflection 5/3/20 Effective Communication Artifact
- Artifact: Class notes from January 30, 2020. I think this is an excellent example of how I have grown as an effective communicator both in and our of the classroom. My ability to effectively develop and express ideas both in writing and orally has improved tremendously. I was not thinking I would use these notes as my artifact, but after closely reviewing how I planned to respond to personal failures and struggles this semester and onward. The goals that I set for myself have been reached and I am especially proud of the fact that I have stuck to every bullet on that list in all of my endeavors. From communicating with friends, professors, strangers, and more, these are my golden set of rules and something to reflect upon if and when I slip up in a misunderstanding. They have placed a major emphasis on the skill-set that each Bryant student is encouraged to learn and master, and I feel proud that I have a few boxes checked already. The importance of self reflection is just as strong as the key features of reflecting writing. Similar to a writing reflection, in personal situations one must go through all of the same key features. Who was involved? What conflicts occurred? What events occurred? In addition to reflecting, understanding your personal reactions and responses is just as important as understanding the reactions and responses of your audience. How did you feel when that happened? How did you respond to what happened? How did this affect you? What was the effect? All excellent questions to be pondered. I think this course in particular has greatly impacted my communication skills in such a positive way and having the guidance of a professor who encourages a lot of communication between students has benefitted me very much. These notes may seem small, but I think they really illustrate how beneficial this course has been for my effective communication skills and how I have been able to translate them into other areas of my life as well.
