 1. Completed Action in the Past

Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.

Examples:          What did you do yesterday?                                                                              

    Keywords:

   last week, last year, last month, last summer...,

   in the past, 

   when I was little...

"Ago"  means "hace" in spanish.

How long ago did you go to the cinema? ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que fuistes al cine?

The answer is:I went to the cinema 2 weeks ago. Fui al cine hace 2 semanas.

English:     point in time + ago

Spanish:    Hace + momento en el tiempo

To Be (was/were)

The verb "be" is also irregular in the Simple Past. Unlike other irregular verbs, there are two Simple Past forms: "was" and "were." It also has different question forms and negative forms. Always remember that you DO NOT use "did" with the verb "be" in the Simple Past.
