Merry Christmas Eve Eve! Today, I (TheBellsprout101) am going to do something that I'm sure absolutely nobody saw coming: I will write the first article on the Clone Post in over three years! That's a pretty long time to be inactive for. Well, to be fair, there was the conversion to New Google Sites that happened alongside Miiverse Clonapedia and the Clone Forest, but that's just about it.
To be honest, when I created the Clone Post back in 2020, I overestimated how much I'd be using it. I thought it would be a great idea to have a site that covered the news of the moment. As it turns out, having a "news outlet" is not as important for an encyclopedia as, say, an image gallery, the one that the Clone Forest is. The reason being that I can just update Miiverse Clonapedia with new information that comes out, and since I'm doing that anyway, the Clone Post is just going to echo the same content. I guess there's an appeal to seeing how the real time changes to the Miiverse clone community happen, but nowadays most of the Miiverse clone happenings are minor, so it's better to just put them on the Clonapedia and leave the Clone Post alone rather than use my time to document the same thing twice. Plus, when there is a big influx of news, it gets overwhelming for a single person like me to not only update the Clonapedia but make new articles on the Clone Post talking about the here and now. I wanted to bring the Clone Post back with a proper explanation as to why it was seemingly dropped, despite still being on the front page of the main Miiverse Clonapedia website. I hope with this article I can find some fun ways to use the Clone Post in the future.
With that out of the way, let's talk about the latest things happening as of December 2023:
A couple of weeks ago, on December 23, 2023, the Pretendo Network team responsible for bringing back the online features of the Wii U and 3DS announced the reopening of Juxt. Juxt is available for use on the Wii U and 3DS, but is accessible in a view-only state on PC and mobile browsers. It appears that this is another beta, and may be subject to closure for future development. However, the Pretendo Network team has not yet stated how long this reopening will last.
The developer known as NoNameGiven has been spending the past few months developing a new Miiverse clone with Node.js. With most of its features being built from the ground up, it is likely to be one of the more unique Miiverse clones coming out in the near future. It initially had the name "NoNameVerse", before being renamed to "Sapphire" in September of 2023. It has recently been renamed to "Aquamarine". On the 18th of this month, NoNameGiven posted a new video showing the clone in action.
Developer Aymo announced yesterday the development of a new Miiverse clone known as "Sprigatitoverse". Today, he released what he described to be a "very unstable build" of Sprigatitoverse under sprigatito.2tendo.club, utilizing a much more different layout compared to typical Miiverse clones. As of the writing of this article, Sprigatitoverse is still in development.
On December 16, 2023, Seedur, the creator of Cedar-Django, one of the most active clones at this time, made a post stating that Cedar-Django will now be invite only, meaning only users with invite codes can sign up for the site now. This was in addition to news that the file size limit was increased.
Since we're here, I'd like to point out that Miiverse Clonapedia will be celebrating its 4 year anniversary on January 6, 2024, two weeks from now. As of right now, I don't have the specifics for how I'm going to celebrate, but I'll definitely make sure I will commemorate the event properly. It's hard to believe that Miiverse Clonapedia is turning four years old... the creation of the site meant to document Miiverse clone history is itself becoming Miiverse clone history. It's a bit jarring that the "post-clone" scene is still going after all this time. Hopefully we can see unique developments come in 2024, but only time will tell.
Thanks for reading! I'm glad I could bring the Clone Post back like this. Stay tuned for more news..... maybe.
