FAQ

When does my child get a class schedule?

Does my student need a planner?

Yes.  You can get a planner at registration for $5.  Most teachers require students to keep track of assignments in their planner to learn good study habits.  A "planner check" is often part of their grade.  Some teachers will require a planner to enter the classroom.

What does my student need for school?

Students usually use a backpack for bringing items to and from school that they keep in their locker.  However, they aren't allowed to use their backpacks during the day.  They recommend that students (especially sixth graders) use a zipper binder to carry supplies and papers to all of their classes.

What's Advisory?

Each student has a "home" classroom called Advisory.  Students have advisory either before or after lunch for about 30 minutes.  What students do in advisories depends on the teacher.  Choices can include studying, reading, playing games, or going outside.  Advisories will compete against each other in magazine sales and the beach volleyball tournament, and work on service projects together.  Advisory is also a good time for students to visit their counselors or get help from another teacher.

There are special advisories available for 8th grade students that may require auditioning.  These include Jazz Band (Mr. MacArthur), Noteworthy Choir (Ms. Hochella), Yearbook (Ms. Reiher), and Art (Ms. Pentzien).

How do lockers work at Clague?

At registration, your student will find out their locker number and combination.  Lockers are usually close to the student's advisory classroom.  At registration, it's a good idea to visit your locker and practice opening it.  You don't need a separate lock for your main locker.

How does lunch work?

Each grade goes to lunch at a different time.  There is a peanut-free table for students with allergies.  Students can choose to sit where they want.  Students can bring their own lunch or can purchase lunch.  Choices include pizza, sandwiches, hot entrees, and snack items.  You can set up an account that your student can use to pay for lunch at MyPaymentsPlus.com.

How does gym class work?

All sixth graders take gym class, alternating days with music class.  Students should have a combination lock to use on their gym locker.  At the beginning of the week, students bring gym clothes (socks, athletic shoes, shorts, Tshirt) to wear in gym class that week.  They bring them home to wash at the end of the week.  Sixth graders have gym class at the end of the day, so they don't take showers after gym.  Seventh and eighth graders can take physical education classes as an elective.

What's the A/B schedule?

The A/B schedule applies to 6th graders.  Each week, half of students will have gym Monday, Wednesday, Friday and music Tuesday and Thursday; the next week they will have music three times and gym twice.  The other half of students will have music Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and gym Tuesday and Thursday; the next week they will have music twice and gym three times.  Students need to pay attention to make sure they bring their instruments and gym clothes on the correct days.  We will try to update the Clague calendar with the A/B schedule, especially after extra days off.  There is also a way to figure it out in PowerSchool (we will update here how to do it when it's available).

Does the money from the Fall magazine sale support activities sponsored by the PTSO?

No, funds raised through the magazine sale are used by Clague staff to supplement their budget from the district.

Does my child have to sell stuff for the PTSO too?

No, for PTSO, we try to raise funds by family donations (suggested $40/family), and supporting the PTSO thrift shop, grocery   cards, Amazon Smile, and Box Tops for Education.

What's the Village Fund?

The Village Fund is a separate account to provide help for Clague families in need.  The Village fund has been used in the past to help families buy clothes, school supplies, eyeglasses, and shoes for Clague students.  Requests are handled confidentially through Mr. Carter, Clague principal.
