Watershed Stewards

Ciudad SWCD is proud to offer Watershed Stewards, a program designed to educate senior citizen residents in Rio Rancho about the all-encompassing importance of local watershed health and engage residents in stewardship opportunities that in turn support a healthy watershed.



Join us for the Watershed Stewards Fall Series:


Wednesday, October 20, 1:30-3:30 pm - Field Trip*

Rolling River & WaterWise Garden Tour: Join Sandoval County Master Gardeners to learn about water conservation practices for arid landscapes in this beautiful public space that highlights native and drought-tolerant vegetation.


Wednesday, November 3, 1:30-3:00 pm

Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI): learn about rainwater harvesting techniques at residential and municipal levels that create healthier landscapes and protect the Rio Grande from polluted stormwater with a local expert.


Wednesday, November 17, 1:30-3:30 pm - Field Trip*

GSI Tour: Visit the Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority facility to observe rainwater harvesting and other low impact development features that benefit our watershed with Dave Gatterman, the facilities manager.


Wednesday, December 1, 1:30-3:00 pm

Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful: Hear from Dyane Sonier from Parks, Recreation and Community Services about local programs that support community beautification, stewardship, and waste reduction.


Wednesday, December 15, 1:30-3:30pm - Field Trip*

Wild Bird Rehab Facility Tour: Mikal Deese of On A Wing and Prayer, will provide a tour of her bird rehabilitation facility in Corrales to show stewardship in action, where we will meet her feathered friends and talk about ways to protect them.
