Ciudad SWCD is a special district, also known as a political subdivision, of the State of New Mexico organized under the Soil and Water Conservation District Act (73-20-25 et. seq. NMSA 1978). Ciudad SWCD promotes and is committed to the conservation, improvement, and responsible use of the natural resources on the rural and urban lands within its boundaries. Ciudad SWCD is largely funded by soft money, grants and cooperative agreements.  The District values collaborating with partners and aims to serve constituents and the environment with the highest quality of public service and education of best practices. Ciudad SWCD frequently works across jurisdictional boundaries, including on private lands, providing financial and technical assistance to land managers. The District  is pleased to have a committed Board of Supervisors and a passionate team of Staff Members who are devoted to making a difference within our Watershed.

Watershed Conservation Manager - Position Open

The Watershed Conservation Manager will lead the effective delivery of Ciudad’s Watershed Program, focusing on watershed health, healthy soils, local agriculture, habitat restoration, and conservation of water resources. Working closely with the District Manager and other Ciudad staff, the Watershed Conservation Manager will integrate existing District projects  with the expertise and project ideas they bring to Ciudad. They will guide programmatic decisions that advance Ciudad towards its goals, and lead the development of a program strategic plan that aligns with the District’s Long-Range Plan. The Watershed Conservation Manager will develop and maintain strong reciprocal partnerships with local, state, and federal governments; non-profits; tribes; and private landowners to ensure the conservation of natural resources within the District. 


The position involves a 25-hour per week commitment, and is eligible for state retirement.  This position is expected to grow into a full-time position as additional funding becomes available.

Financial Coordinator - Position Open

Ciudad SWCD seeks a Financial Coordinator to oversee District financial operations.  The Finance Coordinator will be responsible for managing the District’s accounting information system utilizing the cash accounting method in QuickBooks to process a variety of transactions. The selected individual will be responsible for overseeing project budgets in cooperation with the District Manager and Program Managers, preparing annual budgets in collaboration with the Finance Committee and District Staff, and analyzing costs with numerous program budgets. They will draft and present financial reports, pay invoices, process payroll, prepare grant reimbursement requests, and reconcile accounts. The Finance Coordinator will develop and maintain communications with funding agencies, constituents, and other stakeholders.
