The objectives of the Diploma of Information Technology programme are to enable graduates to:
1. Meet the manpower requirements for business industry and for operators and technical support experts in business information technology
2. work as professionals in the Information Technology industry who are able to identify, analyze and solve problems in one or more areas of technology by selecting and using either quantitative or qualitative techniques appropriate to the resolution of technological problems
3. Acquire specific knowledge and skills in information technology which are relevant to their disciplines and careers and demonstrate skills in the analysis and determination of technological issues at management level.
4. Become better problem-solvers and innovative thinkers, who are able to learn new skills independently and efficiently and consequently to succeed in a competitive professional environment
5. Understand and act within the ethics of their profession and the need for a commitment to that profession.
Diploma Programme
For a student to be admitted into the Diploma in Information Technology, he/she should certify one of the following minimum requirements.
Certificate Programme
For a student to be admitted into the Certificate in Information Technology, he/she should certify one of the following minimum requirements.
In the first year of studies, students study the foundational material in basic mathematics, communication skills and information science. In the second year, students study advanced courses that impart the skills required for execution of practical solutions for real life problems.
The structure of the Certificate programme in Information technology is as shown in Table 2.5 while the Diploma programme structure is shown in Table 2.6.
