Mrs. Erendor Interview:
Mrs. Erendor is a knowledgeable teacher that has the capacity to explain in clarity all my doubts about chromatography. She is a perfect model to give me all the possibilities to understand this important science's branch.
Questions:
1.What means chromatography?
2.What benefits does it provide us in modern day?
3.Why is it important in science branches?
4.Which techniques can we use to separate substances?
5.Which scientist in history discovered this easy way to isolate mixtures?
6.Why do you use chromatographic methods?
7.What are its characteristics?
8.How can we classify it?
9.What materials are required to make chromatography?
10.How would be the world without chromatography?
Answers:
1. Chromatography means "color writing", which is based in the separation and isolation of mixtures.
2.Benefits:
-Advantage
-Speed of analysis
-High resolution
-Quantitative results
-Good sencibilidad
-Automation
-Wide range of applications
3.Chromatography is important to separate the components of the mixture to obtain it more pure and also measure the proportion of the components of the mixture.
4.Techniques:
-Planar chromatography. The stationary phase is placed on a flat plate or on paper.
-Column chromatography. The stationary phase is within a column.
5.The botanist Mikhail Tsweet discovered cromatography.
6."Chromatographic methods are commonly used for the quantitative and qualitative
analysis of raw materials, drug substances, drug products and compounds in biological
fluids."
7.Characteristic:
-Two mutually immiscible phases are brought into contact.
-A phase is stationary and the other mobile.
8.Classification:
-Paper chromatography
-TLC
-Liquid chromatography
-Gas chromatography
-Supercritical Fluid Chromatography
9.Materials:
- Large beaker.
- Small beaker filled with water.
- Filter paper, four strips.
- Black markers for testing, four different brands, water-based
- Masking tape, four pieces for labeling.
- Pencil.
- Permanent marker.
10.The world would be a chaos without chromatography because thanks to it we are able to distinguish or analyze the components of the substances in a mixture.
Lessons:
Through my interview I conclude that this project will help me to understand the methods, and techniques of chromatography, which will develop my knowledge about the isolation of the components in mixtures.
