THE TEAM

From the original Building Vision Group a much smaller team – the Building Project Steering Group - was chosen to work alongside the architects to start finalising the details of the project. The team members provided a brief synopsis of their experience in building, construction and project work.

MICHAEL LINDLEYAs a Chartered Building Surveyor I have worked in the construction industry for 28 years. During that time I have dealt with projects dealing with alterations, extensions, new builds and repair and maintenance works to domestic, ecclesiastical, commercial and educational buildings. I am also a member of the Christ Church Building Maintenance Team. This gives me a firm basis to assist with taking the Christ Church 2020 Vision Project forward to ensure that the outcome fulfils the brief set by the PCC to enhance welcome, worship and outreach.

ROB WALTERSHaving been involved with this building project from its inception I feel privileged and excited to be part of this opportunity to enhance the welcome of Christ Church through these building works. My career within the mechanical and electrical building services industry working for national contractors such as Shepherd Engineering Services Ltd (York) and Morfitts (Leeds) has given me site installation, tendering and project management experience that brings strong technical support to the team. Having been on the Christ Church Building Maintenance Team since 2008 I also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the building fabric of Christ Church and appreciate the importance of timely maintenance - a significant amount of which will be included in these building works.

JILL WALTERSI have been Parish Administrator here at Christ Church for nearly 8 years and have amassed much knowledge about the day to day workings of the church and Parish Centre and the people who work and frequent here. Along with David Convery the Parish Centre Steward and Weekday Verger I also have a clear insight into the fabric and furnishing needs of both buildings.

In 1994 I co-founded the Hookstone Chase (Harrogate) Community Association which was formed to convert the then derelict caretaker’s bungalow in the grounds of Hookstone Chase CP School into the Hookstone Chase Community Centre to create a new home for a much needed local playgroup and community groups. I gained valuable experience in dealing with all levels of Borough and County Council administration along with private businesses and trust managers. From the outset I found myself very heavily involved, negotiating the permissions to acquire the building and then on through to the design processes, fundraising, project management and final commissioning of the building in 1999. I continued to be the Vice Chair of the Association and Centre Manager (unpaid) until 2011 when the playgroup took over the lease and full control of the building. Although initially only a project of £50K - a project somewhat smaller than the one we are facing here at Christ Church - it gave me the valuable experience and skills I wish to bring to our 2020 Vision here at Christ Church.

JANE BOYDProfessionally I am a retired nurse having worked in the Harrogate area and at St James’s, Leeds. I have been a regular worshipper at Christ Church since my return to Harrogate nearly 14 years ago and I have been the Safeguarding Officer for nearly 6 years. I also represent the PCC at Deanery Synod and am Christ Church’s Foundation Governor at St Aidan’s.

My involvement in Christ Church 2020 Vision came about when my husband Bob, stepped forward to be the Treasurer for the project accounts. I felt I could help with the finances too by being a part of the Fundraising Team. I have been involved with Girl Guiding in Harrogate and the area for over 30 years and at the moment I am the County Membership Coordinator. As a result I know a large number of people and have acquired administrative and organisational skills. I am also involved in their fundraising projects. All of these skills I bring to my Fundraising role with the Christ Church 2020 Vision Project.
