Pastor Tom Cogan

Pastor Tom Cogan is a native of Washington, D.C. He graduated from Trinity Lutheran seminary in Columbus, Ohio and interned at Miller’s Lutheran in Hickory, NC. Pastor Cogan has served his entire ministry in the NC Synod. In his 36 years of ministry within the NC Synod, he has served the following calls: Providence Lutheran (Winston-Salem, NC), Holy Trinity Lutheran (Troutman, NC), St. Luke’s Lutheran (Conover, NC), Good Shepherd Lutheran (Charlotte, NC) and Wittenberg Lutheran (Granite Quarry, NC). His last call was as the full time chaplain for Trinity Village and Trinity Ridge (formerly the Lutheran Homes) in Hickory, NC. Pastor Cogan retired from active pastoral ministry on January 31, 2018. Currently, he and his wife Robin reside in Salisbury, North Carolina. Pastor Tom has served on various committees in the NC Synod. He and Robin were clergy presenters for Lutheran Marriage Encounter for twenty-five years and served on the state and national boards. While serving in his last call as chaplain at the Lutheran Homes, Pastor Tom was trained to work with seniors who are living with dementia and has developed resources for congregations to learn how to better care for people who are living with dementia. Per the requirement for interim pastors of the NC Synod, Pastor Tom is trained and certified for the work of interim ministry by the Center for Congregational Health in Winston-Salem, NC. The Cogans have two grown children: Amanda who lives in Gastonia with her husband Stephen and son Joshua who lives in Dallas, Texas. They have one grandchild – Annabelle -- whom they adore. They also have a grand dog—Bandit—who lives in Salisbury with them.
