Pastor Michael Weaver

Pastor Michael Weaver began his ministry as interim pastor with Christ Lutheran Church on December 11, 2017.

A journalism graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Pastor Michael worked as a newspaper reporter and editor for 10 years in Salisbury and Asheville before sensing a call to ministry. He returned to school at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C., and on his way to ordination in the ELCA spent training time in North Dakota, Florida, West Virginia and Zimbabwe in southern Africa.

Pastor Michael has served ELCA parishes in the North Carolina mountains, Lincolnton, and throughout the Triad area. He looks forward now to partnering with Christ Lutheran Church.

His hardest work, he says, was the decade or so he spent as full-time daddy to daughter Indigo (13) and son Julian (10) while his wife, J. worked in public health arenas. J. now runs her own consulting firm, helping communities improve their health and helping agencies serve those communities across two states.

Pastor Michael is a “P.K.” (That’s “Preacher’s Kid”), and considers himself blessed to have traveled to and lived in many parts of the world. His father served 20 years as a U.S. Navy chaplain, allowing Michael to attend high school in Naples, Italy, and visit much of Europe, the Holy Land, and parts of Africa.

Winston-Salem has been “home” to Pastor Michael and J. longer than any other place either has lived. And their kids aren’t likely to let them leave anytime soon.
