The letter accompanying your report should adhere to standard business letter format (place return address before the date line; use a colon after the salutation; single-space paragraphs) and include the following information:
First paragraph: The presentation of the report to the laboratory instructor; identification of group number, class section, dates. Tip: Include an executive summary for the reader regarding important findings, conclusions, and recommendations along with important key details.
Middle paragraph(s): Information about your experiment—pertinent sections of the report or definite results that are particularly important.
Final paragraph: Acknowledgments of individual responsibilities, and appropriate closing remarks.
Be sure that the group leader signs this letter. Remember—do not give the letter a page number, nor show it in the Table of Contents. NOTE: You will bind the transmittal letter for convenience.
