About Jeet

Jeet grew up in the idyllic town of Bhilai (CG, India) where he spent most of his childhood playing tennis and cricket, and learning mathematics and science from his engineer father and doctor mother which triggered his interest in chemistry and biology. He received his bachelors (B.Sc., Hons.) and masters (M.Sc.) from IIT Kharagpur in Industrial Chemistry. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, U.S.A. where he worked in the laboratory of Prof. Ronald Raines. There, he performed chemical biology research, focused primarily on bioconjugation. He then moved to the laboratory of Dr. Kenton Swartz as a National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) competitive postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S.A., where his research focused on ion channel biology. In addition to science, Jeet is passionate about literature and sports and he captained his institute's tennis team when at IIT and has played in several state-level tennis tournaments. He joined IISER Pune as an Assistant Professor in June 2013 and moved to IISER Bhopal in February 2018. He was promoted to the Associate Professor designation in October 2019, and made full Professor in July 2024. He has been awarded the DBT/Wellcome Intermediate Fellowship (20142020) as well as the DBT/Wellcome Senior Fellowship (2024-2029). Jeet's detailed CV can be found here
