In the video to the right, you will see an example of me using Screen-O-Matic. I had told a few of my coworkers about the GoogleDrive assignments and the benefits of using them in class. When I tried to explain it to them verbally, they got it, but wanted more help. I felt that a screen-cast of me showing/talking myself through the process would be more effective. I feel this is a good example of simplifying instructions for everyone and giving them multiple means of picking up the information.
Screen-O-Matic is a tool that captures a video of your computer screen in real time. As you move your cursor and talk, everything is recorded in a video. One of the tools I've talked about in my blogs for EDT517 is creating 'How to' videos to make technology use easier teachers and students alike. In the video to the left I created a 'How To' video to explain how to create a GoogleDrive assignment on Schoology.
2c: Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning.
In this particular video I show my colleagues how to use a tool within Schoology. One of the best parts about Schoology is its ability to interconnect with outside resources. With that said, it can become complex, especially for older teachers who are still getting used to technology use. To help some of my colleages use technology in a way that makes their lives easier, I created this video. Hopefully, after viewing, they feel comfortable using GoogleDrive assignments in their classrooms. Screen-O-Matic makes the process of teaching technology much easier to capture through words and visuals.
As funny as it sounds, I would love to create a Screencast using Screen-O-Matic about using Screen-O-Matic. Then I would like to show it to my colleagues. I believe that if we all knew how to use it, we could all create videos about the various technologies we use in our classrooms. This would create a level of collaboration that would help bring the entire school community to a new level of technology integration.
In the classroom I would like to use Screen-O-Matic to create a more innovative classroom. Anytime I want to use a new technique or tool, I can use Screen-O-Matic to create 'How to' videos for my students. I may just ask my students to create one for a class project as well. The possibilities are endless!
