What is it?
Diigo started out in 2006 as online bookmarking site. Over the past 12+ years, Diigo has continued to adapt and make itself a more useful tool online literacy building. Diigo now allows its users to bookmark sites, annotate sites through highlighting/comments, sharing resources with colleagues, create PDF's, and cross-reference articles through their database.
Why use it?
ISTE NETS*T Standard 3.A-D: Model digital age work and learning.
1. Research Organization: Diigo allows students and teachers to create resource collections that include articles, PDFs, and any other relevant websites. Because of the layout, these collections can be organized by unit, subject, and many more. It is then easy to refer back to previously analyzed resources.
2. Literacy: Diigo allows students to create PDFs and annotate ANY resource. This annotation includes three different colors of highlighter and the ability to comment on passages.
3. Shared Information: Diigo also allows teachers and students to create groups to share resources.
How can I use it?
Be creative! There are many uses for a resource like this!
Below is a short screencast I made about Diigo. In the video I give a quick explanation of how to set up Diigo on your toolbar, how to annotate a resource, and how to create a group!
