September 14--Fairytale Fun Run (*Official Beer Week Event*/Mellow Mushroom & A5K/Sponsored: Lowcountry Craft Dist./Fundraiser: Charles Webb Center)

Post date: Sep 3, 2017 7:56:47 AM

*CBR meets every Thursday at the Hampton Park Gazebo, at 7pm sharp, and runs to a different bar each week!* (This is an extra special event, so please read the details carefully and feel free to message us with questions.)

Join Charleston Beer Runners for our first ever Fairytale Fun Run! This Thursday we're running to Mellow Mushroom (Downtown) and together we're dedicating this run to the Charles Webb Center! It's a #CBRkickthekegFundraiser, sponsored by our Fairy Godmothers at LowCountry Craft Distribution. And just like when Cinderella's wish was granted and she ran away from the ball, this is going to be a night to remember! So tell your friends and tell your family--we want to pack the house and drink for a great cause! (As always, self proclaimed "Charleston Beer Drinkers" are welcome to join us at the bar!)

There are a few things that you need to know to get the most out of this event:

  1. (#1 is the most important) Please come out! CBR is a super duper fun running club, there's no pressure to perform, and all abilities are welcome! You just have to get to the bar (no questions asked...). The run route is to a destination (not a loop), which means you'll have to carry your ID and money with you. Check out our website for more details on how people deal with transportation.

  2. Donate something from the Charles Webb Center's wishlist, and receive a mystery gift! Fairytales are all about making wishes and dreams come true, and that's what this run is all about. We'll have collection bins at the bar, so bragging rights will be had by everyone who does the run with their donation item. Haven't heard of the CWC or don't know what they do? Check out their website and see all the great things they do to help families and kids right here in Charleston!

  3. We've got a killer Prize Pack for Best Fairytale Costume! So dress up (solo, group, whatever), get creative, and have fun! The costume contest will take place at around 9:30 pm, after the CBR toast and group photo.

    1. Register for the Avondale 5K Run and Walk with a special coupon code (and join team CBR)! We'll have an A5K rep at the bar to help people sign up.

  4. CBR Kick the Keg: Purchase select Lowcountry Craft Beer and ALL proceeds will go to the Charles Webb Center! We've got Blue Blaze Brewing's Kolsch, Milk Stout and Heffeweizen. Our goal is to Kick the Keg (and cans)! (We tend to rush the bar, so when you get there please order your beer at the bar then make room for the next person to order their beer--don't camp out at the bar. If you wish to order food, please find a table and a server will be happy to help you out. We recommend cash and ordering the Blue Blaze cans for faster service; or open a tab if you'd like to pay with card.)

Beer Week coincides with Charleston Restaurant Week so our wonderful friends at Mellow Mushroom will be offering the 3 for $30 option for 2 people (an app, medium pizza and dessert) as well as 2 seasonal flights for $12. It's seriously one of the best Restaurant Week deals around! (Wear a stretchy costume...)

When you get to the bar, please head upstairs! We're taking over the entire 2nd floor, so let's make this standing room only!

Our Route:

From the gazebo, take a left and run all the way around the park then head out Cleveland St. Right on Rutledge (if you want to add a hill to this run, from Rutledge, take a left on Fishburne--at the playground/basketball courts just before the Crosstown--to run around the playground and up the pedestrian bridge, once you get to the other side head back to Rutledge). From Rutledge, left on Wentworth, left on King, and the bar will be on our left! (~3.1 mi/3.5 mi with the pedestrian bridge)

Want a shorter route?

(~2.8 mi/3.2 mi with the pedestrian bridge) From Rutledge, left on Calhoun, right on King, and the bar is on the right.

(~2.1 mi/2.5 mi with the pedestrian bridge) From the gazebo head straight out the park, right on Rutledge, the rest of the route is unchanged.

(~1.8 mi/2.2 mi with the pedestrian bridge) Skip the loop around Hampton Park, and from Rutledge turn left on Calhoun.

Water Fountains:

Hampton Park: gazebo (start) & lake

Cannon Park (mile 2.7), far side of the park, under the trees

Colonial Lake (1 block off route, mile 2.8), corner of Rutledge and Beaufain

Remember to bring your ID and some money for the bar!

The bugs are starting to bite so don't forget the bug spray! Also, please remember to hydrate before, during and after the run!

***A little more info about the Charles Webb Center...***

The CWC offers educational programs and support to aid in the growth and development of children who have special needs, developmental delays or diagnosed disabilities. The Avondale 5K is their only fundraising event, and they are reliant on the success of this race to continue services every year. When CBR heard about the A5K and CWC, our hearts melted. Not only is the CWC an incredible organization working to help people in our local community, but the A5K is a local race put on with local support. And it combines two things we're pretty good at: running and beer (and local establishments)! It's sponsored by Triangle Char + Bar and heavily supported by Mellow Mushroom and other Avondale establishments. So please, join us for this run, make a donation or simply help us kick the keg, and join us as we run the A5K 2017!
