We are so excited to share this award-winning, beloved musical, filled with humor, romance, some of the best-known songs in musical theatre, and a memorable cast of characters.
Actors will portray all ages from River City parents, young adults/teens and children. We are seeking strong actors, singers and dancers … and yes, musicians!

3 pm If you are called back for a role, you will sing again and read for that role at your call time.

Rehearsals take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3-7 pm. There may be a weekend rehearsal called occasionally, as needed. This is a big show with many group numbers.

Character Breakdown
MARIAN PAROO: The town librarian and piano teacher. Has high standards, and is intelligent, well-read - and the only one who truly sees Harold for what he is. Stuck up. Curious. Eventually falls in love with Harold Hill. Strong singer/actor who can move. Adult female, vocal range A5-G3.
HAROLD HILL: A con man, quick with words, charming and charismatic, traveling under the guise of a traveling salesman. He eventually falls in love with Marian, despite his original intentions. An energetic actor, with strong singing and movement skills. Adult male, vocal range F4-Ab2.
MRS. PAROO: An Irish widow and mother to Marian and Winthrop. Cheerful, no-nonsense and always plotting for Marian to find a romantic partner. Older adult female, vocal range Eb5-Ab3.
MARCELLUS WASHBURN: Harold’s chummy old friend. A former con man, he now lives in River City and is trying to settle down. Adult male, singer/dancer/ actor, vocal range A4-G2.
CHARLIE COWELL: A cranky traveling salesman who is on to Harold Hill’s schemes. Tirelessly attempts to prove to everyone the true con man behind Harold Hill. Adult male.
MAYOR SHINN: A blustery politician, who is all too “self-important”. Married to Eulalie; protective father to Zaneeta. Skeptical of the town rumor mill. Adult male.
EULALIE MACKECKNIE SHINN: Opinionated, self-important wife to Mayor Shinn. Strong personality, organizes the activities of ladies in town, easily flattered. Adult female, vocal range D5-D4.
EWART DUNLOP: A tenor in the quartet formed by Harold. Runs grocery store; married to Maude Dunlop. Bickering member of the School Board who becomes fast friends with quartet mates. Adult male, vocal range F5-F3.
OLIVER HIX: Sings baritone in the quartet formed by Harold. Runs the bank and is married to Alma Hix. Bickering member of the School Board who becomes fast friends with quartet mates. Adult male, vocal range F4-B2.
JACEY SQUIRES: The highest tenor in the quartet formed by Harold. Runs livery stable where Marcellus is employed. Bickering member of the School Board who becomes fast friends with quartet mates. Married to Mrs. Squires. Adult male, vocal range C5-C3.
OLIN BRITT: Sings bass in the quartet formed by Harold. Runs town newspaper. Bickering member of the School Board who becomes fast friends with quartet mates. Adult male, vocal range C4-F2.
ALMA HIX: A gossipy “Pick-a-Little Lady,” part of Eulalie’s social circle and married to Oliver Hix. Adult female.
MAUD DUNLOP: A gossipy “Pick-a-Little Lady,” part of Eulalie’s social circle and married to Ewart Dunlop. Adult female.
ETHEL TOFFELMIER: A gossipy “Pick-a-Little Lady;” and is girlfriend to Marcellus Washburn. Strong singer/dancer/actor. Adult female.
ZANEETA SHINN: Sweet and outgoing young lady with a quirky personality. Appears to be daffy at times. The Mayor’s daughter, who is in love with Tommy. Energetic, charismatic, strong singer/dancer/actor. Young adult/teen female.
TOMMY DJILAS: A young man from the wrong side of town who often gets into trouble. Secretly courting the mayor’s daughter, Zaneeta. Energetic, charismatic, strong singer/dancer/actor. Young adult/teen male.
WINTRHOP PAROO: Marian’s young brother; very shy because of a noticeable lisp. Gets excited about Harold Hill and the marching band which ultimately brings him out of his shell. Male, appears age 8-12; vocal range Eb5-C4.
AMARYLLIS: A chatty young piano student of Marian Paroo. Smitten with Winthrop but teases him unkindly. Female, appears age 8-12, vocal range E5-C4.
MRS. SQUIRES: A gossipy “Pick-a Little-Lady” married to Jacey Squires. One of Eulalie social circle. Adult female.
ENSEMBLE: River City Townspeople, including Young Adults/Teens, who are strong singer/dancer/actors, and children.
NOTE: In addition to the named roles above, actors will be asked to participate in the ensemble, such as traveling salesmen and townspeople.
