Project PI: ‘Management of invasive plant in Seoul Metropolitan region through ecological restoration of alternative plants’ fully funded by NRF (national research foundation of Korea) (budget: 24,000 USD for 1 year).
o Roles: Spearheaded experimental studies about the restoration of plant communities to resist invasive plants in Seoul Capital Area.
o Tasks: Writing research proposal, experimental design, data sampling, statistical data analysis and modeling, and writing scientific articles.
2009.1~2015.4. Graduate Student (PhD), Ecology labs, McGill University and IRBV
Project: Management of the common reed in freshwater marsh; Funding and Partnership: Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC); Phragmites research group, Ducks Unlimited; PI: Dr. Sylvie de Blois and Dr. Jacques Brisson
o Roles: Spearheaded experimental studies about the restoration of wetland plant communities to manage introduced lineage of Phragmites australis (common reed)
o Tasks: Writing research proposal, experimental design, data sampling, statistical data analysis and modeling, and publication of scientific articles.
2013. Research Assistant, Department of Plant Science, McGill University
Project: Tools for assessing the risks of biological invasion under climate change; Funding and Partnership: Ouranos (PACC26-Uranus); Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs (Quebec Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks); PI: Dr. Sylvie de Blois with Postdoc Dr. Reto Schmucki
o Roles: Assessed invasion risk based on functional traits - identified potential invaders in Eastern North America under climate change, either through altered phenology, fitness, or range expansion projected by species distribution models;
o Tasks: Collection of trait information, biodiversity database management, statistical analysis, and collaborative writing a report.
2005 to 2007. Graduate Student (Master’s), Ecology Labs, Seoul National University
Projects: (1) Ecological assessment of restored wetlands (fallow paddy fields located in nature conservation areas); (2) Environmental characteristics of typical wetland plants; Funding and Partnership: Ministry of Science & Technology (Funding ID: R08-2004-000-10225-0), Green City Department of Seoul City, South Korea; PI: Dr. Jae Geun Kim
o Roles: (1) Spearheaded investigation on wetland rehabilitation processes in old fallow agricultural fields and evaluated its ecosystem functions (2) Conducted mesocosm experiment of wetland plants competition/coexistence under different flooding regimes
o Tasks: Sampling design, experimental design, data measurement and collection and statistical analysis, collaborative writing of government reports and scientific articles.
2008.1~2008.12. Research Assistant, Environmental Planning Institute, Seoul
Projects: (1) Building guideline for restoration of traditional village forests in rural areas (2005), (2) Environmental planning for amenity of Seochun-city (2008) Funding and Partnership: Ministry of Environment, Seochun-city; PI: Dr. Dowon Lee
o Roles: (1) Assisted field investigation of biodiversity of village ponds, (2) Developed restoration guidelines for ecosystem functions and services in village forests
o Tasks: Biodiversity data sampling and analysis, environmental planning, review restoration case studies, collaborative writing a report and guideline manual.
