A building-level education leader applies knowledge that promotes the success of every student by ensuring the management of the school organization, operation, and resources through monitoring and evaluating the school management and operational systems; efficiently using human, fiscal, and technological resources in a school environment; promoting and protecting the welfare and safety of school students and staff; developing school capacity for distributed leadership; and ensuring that teacher and organizational time is focused to support high-quality instruction and student learning.
Reflective Statement
Management in a school context is a multifaceted being. One must tend to the needs of the school community (students, staff, and other community members). Ensuring that all members of the school community have access to the tools and resources necessary to grow both educationally and professionally is a crucial component of school management. Establishing positive, working relationships with every person who steps foot in the school district is an important first step in ensuring that everyone involved with the school system is able to contribute in a positive fashion. In addition to the human element of management, one must also be able to adequately manage their time in order to accomplish the many tasks that must be performed daily. Paperwork will not magically disappear and must be completed in a timely fashion. In my opinion, these two elements, relationships and time management, are the two most important aspects of management in a school setting.
