A building-level education leader applies knowledge that promotes the success of every student by sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning through collaboration, trust, and a personalized learning environment with high expectations for students; creating and evaluating a comprehensive, rigorous and coherent curricular and instructional school program; developing and supervising the instructional and leadership capacity of school staff; and promoting the most effective and appropriate technologies to support teaching and learning within a school environment.
Reflective Statement
An effective principal should be guided by three main principles: Relationships, Relevance, and Rigor.
Establishing positive relationships with all members of the school community helps to establish a dialog with all school stakeholders whenever the need arises. Most importantly, building a relationship with staff members allows them to open up and discuss their thoughts and feelings without fear of repercussions.
In the fast-paced world we live in today, it is crucial that all members of the school community stay relevant in their craft. For school principals, this is doubly true. In order to guide staff members and help them grow professionally, an effective principal needs to stay current in educational research and findings. As new ideas/research appear, the principal should share this information with staff members so that they too can benefit from this new information.
Lastly, establishing educational policy that demands a rigorous curriculum is important for all schools. Students, staff, and administrators must work hard to achieve their very best. A principal should set forth high expectations for all members of the school community. Not only this, but an effective principal will follow up on these expectations, intermittently checking in and seeing how things are going.
