My name is Corey Gilman. I have taught fourth and fifth grade at Maxwell Intermediate School just outside of Greenfield, IN for the past seven years. Before teaching at Maxwell, I taught second grade for three years and was a K-5 interventionist for one year at Storer Elementary in Muncie, IN. In both school systems, I served in leadership positions directed toward training staff members on the use of technology. Personally, I love learning about new technologies and am more than thrilled to be able to share what I know. While the position existed, I was the Leader in Technology Education Specialist, leading monthly professional development sessions for my building. I have led a seminars on how to use Google Classroom effectively at the Apple Mania Conference hosted by Greenfield-Central Community Schools. While working at Storer Elementary, I served as a member of the Tech Cadre helping with the roll out of iPads and Smartboards in the district. In addition to my technology roles, I have also presented at Ball State University’s Best Practice Showcase after leading professional development sessions over Dr. Robert Marzano’s research on student engagement. In all of my work, I have found that I thoroughly enjoy the collaborative effort involved with helping others grow professionally. As I move forward, I hope that I can expand upon this aspect of my work.
If I had to choose a single word to describe me, it would be persistent. When presented with a challenge, I will not stop until I have found an acceptable solution. As a Leader in Technology Education Specialist, I was often confronted with interesting and difficult problems teachers bring to me. Whenever a teacher brings an issue to me, I do my research, ask questions, and find a fix to the problem as quickly as possible.
