I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me

I. What is Brain "rot"?
II. How does it work?
III. What is its consequence?
What is “brain rot”?
Why is social media so addictive? How does this affect your ability to pay attention to prayer, think deeply about God’s Word, or be still with Him (Psalm 46:10)?
How does what you see online affect your heart? Matthew 6:22–23 says the eye is the “light of the body.” What kinds of things—social media, videos, or entertainment—are you watching? How do they shape your thoughts, desires, and closeness to God?
How does social media make us compare ourselves to others? James 4:6 reminds us that God “giveth grace unto the humble.” How can you fight pride and focus on humility instead?
Does too much screen time stop you from serving others?
How big of a problem is brain rot in your life and church? Do you see “brain rot” as a serious problem for yourself, your friends, or your youth group? What steps can you take—together as a group and on your own—to fight this and grow closer to God?
I. What is the Antithesis?
II. How do we live the Antithesis?
III. Why do we live out the Antithesis?
1. What is the antithesis, and how does Romans 12:2 (“And be not conformed to this world”) teach us to live differently in how we use our digital devices?
2. What does it mean to “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth” (Colossians 3:5) in fighting brain rot? Why is it important to develop a hatred for sin, as David says in Psalm 101:3–4? How can recognizing the enslaving nature of sin (John 8:34) help you treat brain rot seriously rather than dismissing it as harmless?
3. What does it mean to “put on the new man” (Colossians 3:10) as a Christian? Psalm 101:2 says, “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way.” What spiritual habits can replace harmful digital habits to help you grow closer to God?
4. What are some of the common and powerful justifications of young people to maintain digital overuse? How do these excuses prevent us from recognizing and addressing the spiritual dangers of brain rot? How can Scripture (like 1 Corinthians 6:12: “All things are lawful unto me, but I will not be brought under the power of any”) help us overcome these justifications?
5. What is the relationship between the antithesis and the communion of the saints? How can accountability and fellowship help you overcome brain rot?
I. Recognising the Sin
II. Relying on the Saviour
III. Resolving to serve
1. How would you evaluate your use of screens and of social media? What biblical principles are involved?
2. Why can’t we fight brain rot or live the antithesis without Jesus’ grace and strength?
3. How can we grow to rely on Christ in our antithetical use of our devices and social media?
4. In today’s day and age, how are we tempted to look away from Christ and to depend on ourselves or others in our fight against brain rot?
5. What is our motivation for using social media antithetically?
6. Are you convinced of the need to make changes to your use of social media? Why or why not? What are some practical measures that you can take to use social media antithetically?
