Determinants of Support for European Integration: the Case of Bulgaria

Replication data set (format CSV)

Tables

This work identifies the determinants of individual attitudes towards Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union. It uses regression methods to analyze a unique data set collected in June 2006. The main factors explaining support for integration were found to be distrust of national government, confidence in EU institutions, beliefs in democratic values, the perceived performance of the country’s economy, and an individual’s social environment. This report may contribute to a better understanding of opinion formation in Bulgaria, an EU member about which academic research is still scarce.
