Squawkie

RIP 04-30-2020

The house felt so empty after Muffin's death, with 'only' three cats. We decided to do something good and adopt another rescue cat through PAW. Enter Squawk.

While we initially wanted to change her name -- Squawk seems to be such an ugly name for such a sweet, pretty little cat -- the first time we heard her we realized how well her name fit. She doesn't meow, she squawks -- loud and often.

She is also a complete brat -- stealing things, knocking things off the table, dumpster diving in the kitchen trash, shredding napkins and paper towels, eating boxes -- but she is also so cute and sweet that we forgive her anything. She doesn't get along with the other cats, but usually there is relatively peaceful coexistence. When Squawkie's Most Beloved Person left for college, Squawkie grieved. She sat in my daughter's empty room and howled. Utter joy was restored when my daughter returned for visits. After graduation, my daughter rented a pet-friendly apartment, and took Squawkie with her. I miss Squawkie, but she is very happy with her Most Beloved Person, and I get to visit her on occasion.
