Lefkara Lace
Lefkara lace is a form of lacework I learned from a member of the Perth's Mundane Embroidery guild. It was done in Period in cotton, linen or silk. It is a variation of white on white cutwork embroidery employing designs unique to the country of Cypress (Lefkara is a city on Cypress) The whitework was brought over by Italian invaders in the 16th century and the country made it their own. While it is similar to hardanger, it has several distinct differences, mainly it the cutwork sections called a 'river' in Lefkara. The first two pictures are of a Handkerchief or Chalice cover, the third my first piece, a lefkara sampler, and the fourth a bookmark I did in the style for the then Queen Yolande.
