WOOD CARVING
Among the trades that go on at the demonstration department is wood carving. Street children that visit this activity are taught the different stages of woodcarving. It is interesting for the children to see how the process works.
The instructor begins by allowing the children to draw any figure, mostly human figures on paper. That figure is then transferred onto a piece of wood. When this is done the instructor gradually allowed the children to begin to carve what they have drawn with the carving tools. Guidance is provided by either allowing the children to look at the process whilst the instructor carves or assists the children in the process.
It continues with sand papering to make the figure smooth. The produce is then polished. This part of the process is easy and the children are able to do it virtually unsupervised. Once the product is completed it is taken to be sold in the CAS shop.
