Articulation Page

For this part you will need to supervise or allow your child to have access to youtube. After clicking to view, it should directly take you to youtube. This was the easiest way to upload the practice videos so please help your child navigate and stay on the articulation practice videos. We do these warm ups at the beginning of every session. You can do this in the car, while taking a walk, at the grocery store, etc. Try to find extra times to practice your child's target sound using the syllables "chart"

All vowels include:

"ah" as in "sock"

"ee" as in "seat"

"oo" as in "suit"

"o" as in "sope"

"i" as in "kite"

"ay" as in "safe"

Try to match Mrs. Oliver! :)

If you are not sure about anything please leave me a comment, or ask a question! Some of the documents have been shared or created by other SLP's or you can find online. But for ease I have posted them here too. I did not create all of the worksheets below. They have been collected over the years by other SLP's.

Prompts for "K" or "G"

  • use your "helper" finger (pointer) to hold down the tip of the tongue while opening the mouth to make "k" or "g"
  • Use a popsicle stick to hold down the tip of the tongue as the back lifts for "K" or "G"
  • Use your back sound
  • Use a mirror to show your child their tongue or show them your own with the verbal cues or helper finger to help

Prompts for specific speech sounds:

"S" 1. Close the teeth

2. Put the tongue slightly behind the front teeth

3. Try to blow "tight" or "skinny" air outward the front of the top two teeth.

"Z" 1. Close the teeth

2. Put the tongue slightly behind the front teeth

3. Try to blow "tight" or "skinny" air outward the front of the top two teeth.

4. Turn the voice on as though you were saying "a"

"R" 1. Start by producing the "L" sound and hold for 5 seconds

2. Try curling the tongue back to the middle

while keeping the voice on, Try to hear the /r/ sound. Do this 10-50 times for practice

3. Now just try to keep the tongue in the middle for a good /r/ sound.

Prompts for L

1. tongue tip touching the back of the top teeth

2. hold in place and turn the voice on

"R" 4. Hold the tongue tip pointing upward in the middle of the mouth for 3-5 seconds. Repeat this 10-50 times.

Things to say to your child:

"Keep your tongue in the middle"

"Tongue tip up"

"Make a tight tongue"

"Make it tight in the back and keep it up"

--See if your child can do what your tongue is doing

--See if your child can imitate your sound

--explain to your child what you are doing and what your tongue is touching

---Start with the "l" sound and slowly move the tongue backward until you hear a sound close to "r"---praise that sound !

"TH" 1. Put the tongue between the front four teeth.

2. blow air quietly through the tongue and teeth as though you are "cooling" the tongue.

3. You will hear the "quiet /th/" sound.

4. For the loud "th" follow steps 1&2 and add the voice as though you are saying "a", to get a loud "th" as in "the"

*Things to say to help remind your child:

"Use a good "tongue biter"

"Keep your tongue between your teeth"

"blow air on the tongue as you lightly bite down."

Give lots of praise for close approximations!

Have fun practicing your speech sounds at home.
