Notes:

Grandpa Camblin was a farmer, a mason and a master carpenter who built

houses and furniture. I believe that he added the second story to Grandma

Rambo's house in Keosauqua. I believe that Verla inherited some furniture

he made. Mom remembers when she and Aileen were just little, that Grandpa

Camblin had a huge long beard. Fascinated, they would watch him eat soup

(or anything) and wonder how he could get it into his mouth through that

beard. Jeanne remembers the tea closets that her Grandpa Camblin made for

her sisters, Lucille and Aileen. They matched Grandma's cedar with copper

strapping.

George Camblin bought the family farm from his father's estate in 1887.

He helped build the Mt. Moriah church and Sandra has pictures of houses

which grandpa built and also of the house where her grandma Retta was born.

She has a picture 14" wide showing the thrashing machine co-owned by George

Camblin and Joe Tedrow. The George Camblin family home burned when Bertha

was about 6 (i.e. 1896).

Julia Ann (Nicholson) Camblin was a midwife. Sandra has a memorium of hers.

George Camblin turned white haired when he discovered his wife's death.

Edgar Hartzer has carpentry tools used by Cephas and his Masonic uniform.

George Camblin was a finish carpenter and smoked a Merscham pipe.

GEORGE W. CAMBLIN

George W. Camblin was born on a farm near Selma Nov. 19, 1856, and died

May 22, 1932, while in a hospital at Des Moines. Of a large family born to

his parents, Cephas D. and Hannah Camblin, one brother and two sisters survive.

He was united in marriage to Julia Nicholson in the year 1873.

To this union were born four sons and five daughters. His wife and two

children preceded him in death. Of the immediate family left are three sons

and four daughters, A. E. Camblin of Kansas City, Mrs. Grace Tedrow of

Libertyville, C. D. Camblin of Minneapolis, Mrs. Via Parks of Ottumwa, Mrs.

Rex Rambo of Keosauqua, Mrs. Retta Hartzer of Des Moines, and T. G. Camblin

of Kansas City. He also leaves one brother, John Camblin of Eldon and two

sisters, Mrs. Della Finley and Mrs. Alice Fuller, both of Allerton. There

are 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

George, as he always insisted upon being called, was united with the

Methodist church in early childhood and always lived the life of a Christian.

He was a resident of Van Buren county all his life and lived in Douds for

many years. After the death of his wife several years ago he made his home

with his children. He enjoyed rugged health throughout his life up until the

past two weeks.

He was a pioneer member of both the Odd Fellow and Masonic lodges, and gave

many years of faithful service, taking an active part in both.

He will be greatly missed by those in this locality as a kind, considerate

father and a righteous citizen.

Funeral May 23, 1932, Rev. G. W. Barber conducting the service. Burial in

Mt. Moriah cemetery.
