Assets

Stations: 802 (228 Cal Fire, 575 contract stations)

Engines: 1095 (336 Cal Fire, 759 contract)

Trucks: 38

Rescue squads: 215

Paramedic units: 63

Hazmat Units: 12

Bulldozers: 58

Aircraft: 48 (11 helicopters, 23 airtankers, 14 air tactical)

---------------------------

I can explain this

228 stations owned by Cal Fire - typically house just Cal Fire Ty3

engines operated by CalFire FT (fulltime) and seasonal FFs

(firefighters)

575 stations owned by local governments or FPDs - with structural fire

units owned by the local governments - staffed by CDF FT FFs - and

maybe also LG poc FFs - maybe sometimes staffed by just 2 FF

I dont think there are any stations with CDF FFs and LG FT FFs -

except maybe Warner Springs and (damn - forgot the 2nd one in San

Diego County - its a new deal)

Bulldozers & aircraft - all owned & staffed by CDF (aka Cal Fire)

336 cal fire engines - all type 3

759 contract engines - owned by local govts - staffed primarily by FT

CDF FFs - always are Type 1 and Type 2 structure engines - (maybe

there is 1 ty 3 somewhere just to make a liar out of me)

In addition - some Type 3 CDF engines serve as LG engines in the

winter - this is the Amador plan - so if CDF has 336 engines, then

maybe 250 are in storage for the winter and 50 are used under Amador

Plans

63 paramedic units - that must be mostly Riverside County - county

owned rescue squads staffed by FT CDF FF/PMs

38 trucks (aerial ladders) - I bet they are all in southern California

- except for Red Bluffs CA

note - no water tenders listed - apparently CDF does not like water

tenders - ???? - they have to rely on local government owned and

staffed water tenders - NPS, FWS, BLM and USFS all have water tenders

- but not CDF - ???

All Cal Fire firefighters go thru the Cal Fire Academy in Ione I think

- so Cal Fire is like a huge "staffing agency" / 'temp agency" - they

supply their own FFs, and FFs for many locally owned fire stations
