Fortran
The first edition of this book was written by Valerie in 1967/68 when she was a researcher in the Nuclear Physic Group at King's College London. It was published in 1969 by Chapman and Hall as a Science paperback. It was distributed in the U.S.A by Barnes & Noble, Inc. The original book title was "A Course on Programming in FOrTRAN IV". It provided for beginners a short, readable course on programming in FORTRAN IV which was the most widely used scientific computer language at that time. The book proved to be extremely popular and became an established textbook in many universities particularly in the UK. It went into 3 editions over a period of 20 years and was translated into Russian and Spanish. It has been out of print over many years now but it can still be purchased on the internet.
