On July 19th, 2012, three delegation members of Mr. Yu, Head of the Public Culture Department from China, and five CALA/NE members had a successful one hour seminar at the 6th floor conference room of NYPL Mid-Manhattan Library, after the delegates toured the NYPL Research Library. During the seminar, Mr. Yu’s delegates inquired about the role of American Library Association in librarians’ professional development and different libraries’ administration and operation mechanism in the US. CALA/NE members shared about their personal experiences as ALA and CALA members, and their knowledge about the profession in both public and academic libraries. In the end, Mr. Yu’s delegates welcomed CALA members to contribute to China’s library journals on similar topics to continue the conversation in the future. All attendants enjoyed learning new facts about the library systems from two different cultures. Thanks to Hung-Yun Chang and Esther Lee for the quick organization and arrangement of this meaningful event.

The CALA/NE Chapter is excited to report that about 20 librarians from CALA and other institutions participated in our spring program to visit Princeton University Libraries. The group visited the East Asian Library, the Lewis Science Library, and the Firestone Library. Some also took advantage of the free campus tour. Many thanks to Charlene and our colleagues from Princeton Universities Libraries for making this such a successful event.
