My DIY Auto Top Off Gravity Fed
My DIY Auto Top Off Gravity Fed
PROBLEM
There are times, specially when your living in an apartment, you cannot just drill holes on walls, ceiling or floors. Its a big problem to my reef tank when there is no easy plumbing access for fresh water to replenish water evaporation. I have to think of something that will give me at least days worth of fresh water top-off.
SOLUTION
An inverted 5 gallon fresh water automatic top-off for your reef tank. Been running without issues since April 2008. This gives me 3-5 days of automatic fresh water feed on my 75 gallon reef tank.
You just need to flush the air hose from time to time to let go some air bubbles trapped inside. Hope this helps, Enjoy.
OBSERVATIONS
As time goes by, the hose becomes hard.
Also, if it is exposed to your reef light, it develops algae, and thus impede the flow.
Use two hoses for redundancy.
I suggest that you replace the hose every 5 years?
Or use a SILICONE hose for flexibility and black in color so that it inhibit algae growth. Like this one.
