When did you move to Bella Vista?

Moved to Rogers in 2003.  We knew this is where we wanted to retire.  We came early to start a business and take care of Jim and Kerry Dinwoodie, Jim's parents.  We sold the business in 2008 with the idea of retiring and playing golf!  Instead, Jim's parents needed help and what a blessing that we sold the business when we did so we were available to take care of them for the next 3 years.

Where did you live prior to moving to Bella Vista?

We moved here from The Woodlands, TX.  Great place to raise kids, lots of people would love love love to live and retire there, but it was way too humid for us!

Where did you grow up?

Omaha, NE.  My Dad is from there, my Mom is from Cheyenne, WY.  The met during WWII.

Where else have you lived?

Never too far off of I-35!  We began our married life (1972) in Duluth, MN.  Moved to Milwaukee, WI where our daughter was born.  Moved back to MN, Minneapolis where our son was born, and then moved to Texas in 1984.

The year before we moved, Jim's Dad retired and Jim and Kerry moved to the remote place called Bella Vista, AR.  That's were all the Northwestern Bell people were retiring.  We came to see them on our way to look at houses in Dallas, Texas and fell in love with the area.  In 1990 we moved to The Woodlands and lived there for 13 years before moving to Rogers.

Hobbies?

I am an artist and an athlete.  I focused mainly on art until I had 2 kids.  Then I wasn't able to have blocks of time to create, especially since Jim traveled 2 weeks out of 5.  I played volleyball and softball in college, but went to tennis and golf after marriage.  Tennis was big in Texas and I played competitive tennis once both kids were in school all day.

Jim taught me how to play golf (he is an amazing golfer coming from a golfing family), but it was hard to have the time and money to play when we were young.  Jim's mom, Kerry is from a golfing family and they have a golf tournament every year called The Linnerooth Open (her maiden name).  Kerry being one of 9 children and they are all golfers from St. Paul,MN, started a golf tournament in 1947 and it has been played every year at Keller Golf Course in St. Paul, MN since then!  In the summer of 1973 all of Jim's cousins started the Linnerooth Off-Spring tournament.  We have played in it most years.  In 1988 we started the Off-Sprang tournament for our kids.  Our son James was 10 at that time.  I FINALLY won in 2012 for our generation after being a member of the family for 40 years!

I love to sew.

I love boating and being on the water. We bought our first boat when the kids were 4 and 18 months.  We spent every weekend (that it was above 50 degrees) on the water in Minnesota. We have now graduated from water skiing to cocktail crusing! I am a walleye fisher person and still know how to string a Lindy rig!

Former Jobs?

I am a teacher by education and profession. I taught art and physical education in junior high, high school, middle school and elementary through out my career.  I tutored for Sylvan learning in Texas which turned me on to professional tutoring. When the kids were in college, we needed the extra income (who doesn't!) so I took an office job with a biotech company in The Woodlands for 5 years and then became the office manager for a large church in The Woodlands.

In 2003 after the kids were out of the house and graduated from college, we bought a franchise with Club Z! In-home Tutoring and moved to Rogers!

What else would you like people to know about you?

Music has always been a big part of my life.  I learned to play guitar in college.  When I met Jim, I was the leader of a junior high folk group called Freendom '70.  When I found out he played guitar and sang, we got together.  Singing and playing guitar is something we have done together our entire marriage.  We sang for family gatherings, friends and church.  When we moved to The Woodlands, we became involved with contemporary worship at our church and formed a Christian Band.  6 of the original members of that group stayed together and played every Sunday either at our own church or churches in the greater Houston areas until we left in 2003 (13 years).  We have been involved in forming 2 bands here in NWA but have now officially retired!
