Butterflies of Yucatan, Mexico- Brushfoots thru Heliconians

This very large, often colorful  tropical butterfly family includes mainly, medium and large species of the Genus Speyeria and Bolaria (Fritillaries), Poligonia (Angelwings), Nymphalis (Tortoiseshell), subfamily Satyrinae (Satyrs and Browns), and subfamily Danainae (monarchs). 

American Snout, Libytheana carinenta  p. 79 abundant north Mexico to uncommon south

Yucatan subspecies below-

Mexican Fritillary  p.79  fairly common

Zebra Heliconian  heliconius charithonia  p. 80 very common

Julia Helconian,  Dryas iulia  p. 80     common

Least Heliconian, Eiiedes aliphera  p. 80  common

The Heliconian below has black submaginal band of the Juno Heliconian and may be that species or a hybred?

Banded Orange Heliconian, Dryadula phaetusa   p. 80  uncommon

Isabella's Heliconian, Eueides isabella  p. 80  uncommon

Tiger Heliconian, for comparison.  This species occurs southwest of Yucatan Peninsula into central America.  This one Costa Rica-

Gulf Fritillary, Agraulis vanillae  p. 80  widespread Southern U.S. and Mexico, very common  nectaring in multiple habitats- 

Erato Heliconian, Heliconius erato  p. 81  near jungle and wooded areas-  very common, probably the most common butterfly Cozumel and some other areas of Yucatan
