Confederate flag For further information click here. This flag was rejected as the national flag of the Confederation in the south in 1861, but used by Robert E Lee as his army's battle flag. It was adopted as the second Confederate Navy Jack for 1863-1865. It has been a controversial flag, meaning a number of things to different people.
