All airlines have weight restrictions on baggage and how many items of baggage can be taken aboard a flight.
Each airline's weight restrictions and baggage penalty charges will be different, so DO check with your airline company for these details before travelling. All airlines are quite within their right to make these charges, resulting in passengers who contravene weight restrictions without prior arrangements with their airline, being issued with a baggage penalty charge, therefore please weigh any baggage before travelling to avoid extra baggage costs.
For heavy, large, fragile or unusual items such as electric wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, assistance dogs, oxygen cylinders, zimmer frames, crutches, infant seats, infant carriers, pushchairs, sports equipment, musical instruments or the possibility of contravening airline weight restrictions, please arrange carriage with the appropriate airline prior to travelling. Passengers who do not make prior arrangements for the carriage of these permitted items, will be asked to pay for carriage before being allowed aboard their flight.
Most airlines will not charge for mobility or infant equipment, but DO check with your airline before travelling, as most will charge for the carriage or loan of electric wheelchairs or bassinets.
Some budget airlines, which do not provide in - flight meals, may allow passengers to bring their own snacks on board, but DO check with your airline before travelling.
Most countries do not allow the import of perishable foodstuffs, so it is wise NOT to carry any of these goods in your luggage.
Please ensure that all hand luggage is within the allotted size stipulated by your particular airline. In general the limits are bags no larger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm.
Some airlines do stipulate a hand baggage weight limit, so DO check that your hand luggage is within this weight limit. In general the weight is usually around 10 kilos.
Handbags, small rucksacks, bum bags and carrier bags containing items bought at airport shops, are generally considered as permitted hand luggage and will therefore not be checked for weight or classified as extra baggage.
Very large rucksacks and bedding rolls are not considered as hand luggage and will therefore be put into the aircraft hold.
